Background:
The art of visual storytelling is an important method to educate and entertain your audience. Visual storytelling can be in the form of videos, and these videos can be long or short; but are packed with visually engaging information.
Research:
As I was exploring different topics about India's rich and exciting culture, I decided to look more into Diwali. Diwali is one of India's most important holidays and I found that Diwali is celebrated over a period of 5 days and that each day has a different type celebration.  As I learned more about each day of Diwali I figured the best way to educate the viewer about Diwali was to create a scene with characters, micro-animations and simple descriptions about each day.
Importance of Type and Color:
Since this is one of India's major holidays, I had to develop type and color that was playful enough to match the energy of Diwali but was also easy to read. I decided on choosing Sirenia for the typeface and a variety of swatches of color I felt fit the playful theme of Diwali based on my research.
Storyboard Sketches
Setting the Scene:
I created assets based on my inspiration board. I wanted to create assets that are recognizable and simple. These assets were made to be used all throughout my video so the viewer feels immersed into the scene. I stuck with a the bright and vibrant colors from my color palette where needed, and found a muted color palette to use on foods, furniture, and buildings.
Final Product:
I see this video being posted on Youtube to educate viewers on Diwali. Especially since this is a short video, Youtube is the perfect place for viewers to learn about topics in a fast and easy way, which I feel my video fits that category.
